CMS Delays the Release of Updated MDS, OASIS, IRF-PAI, and LTCH CARE Data Set

On May 8, CMS announced they are delaying the release and implementation of updated assessment instruments for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), home health (HH), inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), and long-term acute care hospitals (LTCHs).  The MDS, OASIS, IRF-PAI, and LTCH CARE Data Sets were to be updated to facilitate the collection of two new “Transfer of Health Information” quality measures and several standardized patient data elements (SPADEs) as part of each venue’s Quality Reporting Program beginning in FY 2021 for SNFs, IRFs, and LTCHs, and CY 2022 for HH. The delay was first announced in the second Interim Final Rule with comment period released by CMS on April 30, 2020, to allow post-acute care providers to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Details on the delay can be found here.
